Senior Management

Galaxy is led by Chief Executive Officer Simon Hay. Mr Hay brings a wealth of project development skills which will assist Galaxy in unlocking value from its world class assets. The executive team has been bolstered with the addition of personnel experienced in developing international minerals projects as Galaxy gears up for the development of the Sal de Vida project.

Simon Hay

Chief Executive Officer

Mr Hay has a Bachelor of Science with Honours (Chemistry), a Masters of Applied Science (Metallurgy) and a Graduate Diploma in Management. Mr Hay brings a wealth of mining industry experience to Galaxy having held senior positions with leading ASX listed companies including Iluka Resources, BHP Billiton and WMC Resources. Mr Hay’s experience also includes five years in Asia leading Iluka’s Asia-Pacific, and then global zircon marketing activities and has over fifteen years operational experience at assets located across Australia. Immediately prior to joining Galaxy, Mr Hay held the position of Head of Resource Development at Iluka Resources, with accountability for exploration & geology, mine planning & development, major projects & engineering and technology & innovation.

Alan Rule

Chief Financial Officer

Mr Rule has more than 24 years experience as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary in the mining industry in Australia and Africa. He has considerable experience in international debt and equity financing of mining projects, implementation of accounting controls and systems, governance and regulatory requirements, and in mergers and acquisitions. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accounting degree. Prior to joining Galaxy, he was with ASX-listed African iron ore company Sundance Resources Limited, where he had been Chief Financial Officer since July 2014. His previous positions have also included CFO of Paladin Energy Limited, Mount Gibson Limited, Western Metals Limited and St Barbara Mines Limited.  He is a non-executive director of Yellow Cake plc, an AIM listed uranium company.

Nick Rowley

Director - Corporate Development

Mr Rowley is an experienced corporate executive with a strong financial background with over 15 years’ specialising in corporate advisory, M&A transactions and equities markets. He has advised on the equity financings of numerous ASX and TSX listed companies predominantly in the mining and resources sector. Mr Rowley also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Cyprium Metals Ltd (ASX:CYM), Titan Minerals Ltd (ASX:TTM) and Oro X Mining Corp. (TSX:OROX.V). He previously served as Non-Executive Director of Cobalt One Ltd (ASX:CO1) which was acquired by Canadian listed First Cobalt Corporation (TSX:FCC) in 2017.

Tom Blackwell

Executive - Major Projects

Mr Blackwell has over 20 years’ experience leading teams through the delivery of both green and brown field projects. Previously he worked for Iluka Resources (ASX:ILU) and was most recently appointed to oversee key strategic mineral and technological developments. Prior to this he successfully managed multiple capital projects across various phases of feasibility, execution and commissioning to establish sustainable mining and processing operations. He has extensive experience in construction techniques, contracting strategies and negotiations, risk management and stakeholder relations. Mr Blackwell has completed tertiary education in engineering, science and project management, plus specific learning in business administration and general management from both Deakin University and INSEAD and is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).

Brian Talbot

Executive - Australian Operations

Mr Talbot has over 25 years’ experience in mining and minerals processing operations and holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with Honours. Mr Talbot was previously Galaxy’s General Manager where he has managed the Mt Cattlin mine site increasing production to above plan design. Prior to joining Galaxy he was at Bikita Minerals, a lithium mine in Zimbabwe where he achieved increased product yield and capacity. Mr Talbot has also held the positions of mining company director, general manager and metallurgist at various mine operations in Egypt and South Africa with diverse experience in designing, planning and managing profitable mining operations.

Megan Schmiede

Executive - Human Resources

Ms Schmiede is a Human Resources professional with over 17 years’ experience in the resources sector in group, operations and project roles in Australia and Africa. Prior to joining Galaxy she was employed by Resolute Mining and earlier, Moto Goldmines. She is experienced in collaborating with management and operational teams to develop and embed compliant and fit for purpose systems and policies. Her early career with BHP Billiton was where she gained her background in employee relations, culture and change and leadership development.

John Sanders

Company Secretary and General Counsel

Mr Sanders holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Western Australia and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Mr Sanders is a senior corporate lawyer with over 25 years’ experience, having held legal and commercial roles in top tier law firms and international resource companies. He has a broad range of experience in corporate governance, international mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation and implementing resource projects. Mr Sanders has previously worked for Herbert Smith Freehills, King and Wood Mallesons in Perth and Clifford Chance in London, as well as acting as senior in-house counsel at Woodside Energy and Hess Exploration Australia.
